On a quilted bag the two things worth examining are the alignment of the quilting across the flap seam and the weight of the chain. Diamond quilting that continues cleanly across the join is the harder thing to produce, and a chain with real heft sits properly on the shoulder instead of riding up. Both are more telling than the surface of the leather.
